Updated January 4, 2022
Greenville County Schools has updated their COVID-19 isolation and quarantine policy. The isolation period for students and employees who test positive for COVID-19 has been reduced from 10 days to 5 days. Will the YMCA also follow this protocol?
Yes. Once the isolation and quarantine timeframe has passed, and the child has been approved to return to school, students can resume participation in YMCA programs as long as they follow our health and wellness guidelines, found in our After School Parent Handbook.
Will participants be required to wear masks during After School programming?
The YMCA of Greenville follows the same safety guidelines as Greenville County Schools (in accordance with provisions recently passed by the South Carolina State Legislature) which currently state that neither students nor staff are required to wear masks. The CDC continues to recommend masking, and we encourage parents to take into consideration advice from family doctors and public health professionals when deciding what is best for their child.
Will masks be required on YMCA of Greenville After School buses?
The YMCA of Greenville will follow Greenville County School's guidelines for mask requirements during bus transportation.
Are these safety protocols guaranteed to remain the same for the entire 2021/2022 After School year?
Potential changes in SC laws regarding COVID-19 protocol may impact our safety requirements. The YMCA of Greenville will communicate any program related changes to our parents as soon as possible.
What is the program protocol for After School participants exposed to COVID-19?
If your student experiences a close contact exposure and is vaccinated, they do not have to quarantine as long as they are symptom-free. If your student experiences close contact exposure and is not vaccinated, they must quarantine for a minimum of 5 days. All children who have close contact exposures will be required to wear a mask upon their return through the 10th day of exposure. Regardless of your child's vaccination status, we ask that you closely monitor their symptoms.
If a child is exposed to the virus by another After School participant, our staff team will promptly contact the child's parent/guardian.
If a child in our program tests positive for COVID-19, or has been in close contact with a COVID-19 positive individual, YMCA staff will proactively contact the child's school in an effort to keep shared environments as safe as possible.
What if an After School participant tests positive for COVID-19?
Participants who contract COVID-19 must isolate for at least 5 days (a longer isolation is required if symptoms have not improved after the initial quarantine period). If your student has no symptoms after day 5, you may return to After School programming, but must wear a mask for days 6-10.
If an After School participant tests positive for COVID-19, YMCA staff will complete contact tracing reports, and notify parents of any exposed children immediately.
If a child in our program tests positive for COVID-19, or has been in close contact with a COVID-19 positive individual, YMCA staff will proactively contact the child's school in an effort to keep shared environments as safe as possible.
How often will After School areas be cleaned/disinfected?
Our program areas will be cleaned./sanitized between group transitions, and after program time ends.
